National Health Care, A good Idea?
Quote4us.com 2007-03-25
With the 2008 election just around the corner, the subject of national health care will be a hot topic again. The American citizen is having trouble finding the level of health benefits they would like with an affordable premium attached. This frustration is prompting the consumer to listen to the Clintonesque health care proposals hoping to find relief.
But, when you blow away the campaign hype and look at the reality of what a national plan brings with it, many of the supporters would wonder what in the world were they thinking when they voted for this load of nonsense and frustration. One of the historical facts that stands out and paints a very clear picture, is when you look at the national health care system just across the border in Canada. It was once published that there are more MRI machines in the city of Seattle, WA then there are in the entire nation of Canada. The waiting list for a simple MRI was long and it might be months before a patient ever sees the scan or the results. It is no wonder that Canadians come across the border for their health care when they really need attention.
States are now taking the initiative to address the health care issues the consumer is experiencing. Tennessee has initiated a plan to address the working poor called CoverTN. It is not a comprehensive health plan, but a worker can go from being uninsured to having basic benefits for around fifty dollars per month. This is a start.
As the 2008 election approaches with a new batch of personalities on the hill, look for more proposals to surface. But keep a cautious eye. Americans are looking for solutions, but not at the expense of quality.
